  3. Golshany Castle is the ruined residence of the Sapieha family of magnates in Golshany, Grodno region, Belarus.
    The castle in Golshany was built by order of Pavel Sapieha, it was erected in the tradition of Dutch architecture around 1610.
    He was surrounded by moats, which were filled with the waters of Olshanka. Beautiful interiors were decorated with murals, ceilings and framing moldings by fireplaces. Outwardly, it looked like another famous castle in Belarus, Mir Castle. In terms of plan, it also represents a rectangle of residential buildings, which formed a closed courtyard.
    Also known as the Black Castle (although it is built of red brick), the residence previously competed with Mir Castle as the most elegant private castle of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The name "Black Castle" actually actually refers to a fictional building from a book written by Vladimir Karatkevich, based on the Golshansky Castle.
      An annual tournament is held under its walls every summer.
    There are so many entertainments for everyone at this event: traditional knightly tournaments, master classes in pottery, theater performances, fire shows and folk music concerts. The most popular tournaments for archers and medieval battles, as well as lessons in historical and folk dance.
    The castle is associated with many legends and various interesting stories. For example, a legend about a ghost called the Black Monk. Most often, he appears on a clear night in the form of a silhouette against the background of a window or a niche. And something strange begins: the ceiling changes shape, the walls try to close. A person who is at that time in the “ghost tower” forgets everything and, as if paralyzed, watches what is happening.
     Currently, the castle continues to collapse. The Golshany castle needs to be renovated. Originally it was a magnificent three-story stone building with a chapel, a gate and earthworks

  4. Krevo Castle
    This is Krevo Castle or rather, how it looked in the mid-14th century when it was built.
    This is one of the first defensive castels in the territory of the Grand Duchy. The castle is located in the village Krevo near the town Smorgon in the Grodno region in Belarus.Walls up to 13 meters high were made of stone and on the outside were tiled with bricks. From the side of the castle courtyard along the perimeter of the walls was a wooden battle gallery with loopholes.Two castle towers were located diagonally and differed in size: one was large, the other was smaller and unfortunately was completely destroyed. Below was a prison.
    Many historical events happened in Krevo castle: the Grand Duke Keistut was killed in the castle in 1382;
    between Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the famous Krevo Union was signed here in 1385. In the 16th century, the castle repeatedly withstood the raids of the Tatar and Moscow troops.
    By the beginning of the 19th century, it had lost its defensive significance and was abandoned. During World War I, the castle was badly damaged.
    Reconstruction of the castle is currently underway, since only ruins remain.
    Soon the ruins will be restored to a real castle museum, which will be open to everyone. Nowadays, a festival of medieval culture is held in Krevo Castle. There you can see knightly tournaments, see how people lived in the Middle Ages, listen to the songs of minstreld and just plunge headlong into history.
