6th grade. Unit 1. Lesson 10. Culture corner: a nation of animal lovers.

👉Challenge: read the article and express your viewpoint on keeping a pet as a hobby

👉Must use: personal pronouns he / she / it when we talk about pets

Read the article and say if the British people are good pet keepers. Why?
A nation of animal lovers

Do you have a pet? The British people love their pets very much and do everything to make their life more enjoyable.
As you walk in Britain, you can see a lot of smiling cats. Well, British cats have every reason to smile. British pet owners spend around 3.5 billion pounds a year on pet care and products. Owners can even clean their pets’ teeth and buy special pet contact lenses. It is legal to use organ transplants to treat serious pet illnesses such as kidney failure. There are a number of pet accessories available to pets and their owners. Special flashing collars for walking at night, water-resistant dog jackets, car ramps for old or overweight dogs.
There is even a special pet hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne that offers cats and dogs an opportunity to exercise in the indoor gym, relax in the Jacuzzi or watch videos of their owners on personal TV and video sets. There are a number of organisations that protect animals in Britain, but the most important is the RSPCA – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

It is possible to use the personal pronouns he / she when we talk about pets. You can use them when you treat your pet as your family member:
I have got a pet. She is a dog. Her name is Maggie. I have got a dog. His name is Blade.

6th grade. Unit 8. Topic: Books in our life

 Books in our life

Books are one of the greatest wonders in the world. They follow us during all our life. When you read a book you enrich your mind with knowledge. This knowledge will help you in different subjects. People who read many books are very clever. If you read many books you will get a lot of information on many subjects.

Some modern teenagers don't like reading books. They prefer watching TV, playing computer games and other kinds of entertainment. I don't think it's very good. Books develop our intellect, our soul, but, of course, except some modern crime of love novels, which you can find in any bookshop and which are printed only for entertainment. I don't like this kind of literature and, in my opinion, reading such books is only waste of time.

They are many types of books such as novels, detective stories, science literature and many others.

As for me, I like to read books in my free time. Books help me to go away from life problems, to get into another world. Books pass over to us the knowledge and experience of previous generations. I like various literature directions and writers.

Also I like detective books written by Evgeniy Gogloev. I love his books because there are a lot of dangerous adventures in magic worlds.

6th grade. Unit 7. Nature protection

Nature Protection

The Earth is the only planet in our solar system where there is life. You can see blue rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, green fields and forests, snowy mountains, many birds and animals. The nature around us is the environment. Many centuries ago people lived in harmony with nature. But development of science and technological progress influenced the world.

The most serious ecological problems are: water pollution, air pollution, destruction of the ozone layer, acid rain, destruction of tropical forests.

There is no ocean or sea which is not polluted. Many ships sail in the oceans and pollute them. Factories and plants throw poisonous industrial waste into water. Some seas and oceans have suffered after nuclear tests. Many birds and fish die because of the polluted water.

The second important problem is air pollution. Cars, buses, plants and factories pollute the air we breathe. People in big cities suffer from noise and smog. Harmful gases destroy the ozone layer which protects our planet from the dangerous light of the sun.

There are holes in the ozone layer and the sun radiation gets to the Earth and can cause skin cancer. Burning coal and oil leads to global warming and changes in the world's climate.

Acid rain contains acid from factory smoke and destroys trees, rivers and buildings.

One more problem is destruction of tropical forests. These forests produce oxygen we need. People cut down forests and we have less oxygen. Many animals and birds disappear, the world's weather is changing.

Many people try to stop pollution and protect nature. There are some things we can do. We should plant trees and flowers, we mustn't throw rubbish in the streets and forests. People can recycle things and use alternative forms of transport and energy.

6th grade. Unit 9. Lesson 12. Life of Pi

Read the film review and name three things that the writer

liked about the film.

Life of Pi is a warm and wise adventure, drama and fantasy 3D-film based on Yann Martel’s novel. It tells the wonderful story of Pi Patel, a sixteen-year-old South Indian boy who survives (выжить) in the sea with a tiger for 227 days. Pi, born Piscine Molitor Patel, grows up in the South Indian city of Pondicherry, where his father runs the zoo. When Pi is sixteen, Pi, his mother, father, and brother Ravi along with their zoo’s animals travel to Canada on the Tsimtsum ship. Unfortunately, his family dies in the storm, but Pi survives on the lifeboat. Along with Pi, the lifeboat contains a hyena, a zebra, Orange Juice the orangutan, and Richard Parker the tiger. During the dangerous journey the hyena kills both the zebra and Orange Juice, before Richard Parker kills the hyena. Pi is left alone on a lifeboat with a huge tiger. The boy takes care of the tiger and they become friends.

The film doesn’t star a famous actor or actress, but a talented Indian actor, Suraj Sharma, plays his role very well. His character is very realistic. Richard Parker is a computer-generated tiger in 86 per cent of the film which is made so professionally that it looks like a real tiger. The most amazing thing about the film is, of course, the special effects. The biggest part of the events take place in the Pacific Ocean so water has become the main character itself. To create the effect of the ocean, the filmmaker used a huge water tank: 75 metres long, 30 metres wide and 3 metres deep. There were about 6.5 million liters of water in it. With the help of high-powered wind blowers and fantastic camera work the team created waves and made the ocean look real.

The film Life of Pi teaches us to hope and believe. We are much stronger than we think we are. If we have difficult moments in life, we should never lose our faith (вера). It also teaches us friendship. It brings together two very different creatures who depend on each other. Truly amazing to watch!

6th grade. Unit 9. Lesson 8. A film review.

People often write a film review to recommend a film.

Read Kate’s review and say why she likes the film.

Paddington 2 is an amazing comedy about a funny cartoon bear and his adventures. The events take place at Windsor Gardens, West London. The film stars Hugh Grant, a famous British actor, who plays Phoenix Buchanan, an actor and a thief (вор). The bear is brilliantly voiced by another talented British actor, Ben Whishaw.

Paddington happily lives with the Brown family. Paddington saves up money to buy a pop-up book for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, but a thief gets into the antique shop where it is held and steals it. The thief runs away, and Paddington is arrested for the crime. With the help of his family, Paddington gets out of the prison and finds the criminal and the book. Buchanan is later arrested, and Paddington becomes a hero.

You will fall in love with this polite, thoughtful, caring little bear. This is a great film that is fun, amusing and, sometimes, touching. It has an exciting story, wonderful actors and colourful animation. I truly didn’t want the film to end. Paddington 2 is a good laugh for kids and their parents.

Who-questions

То есть, мы не добавляем вспомогательные глаголы (do/does, did и т.д).
Чтобы построить такой вопрос, мы просто берем утвердительное предложение и вместо действующего лица на первое место ставим who/what.
