Exam Topics. Tourism

Our life has become very monotonous and routine. Day after day we take care of mundane matters such as school, home, homework, or if you are an adult, then work, home and household chores. And it’s an endless circle. People complain about the lack of free time and as a result very often we see crowds of gloomy, exhausted and bored by their routines people. So what is the solution? The answer is obvious, it’s travelling. Travelling is necessary to us all. It keeps us from growing stale and old; it stimulates our imagination; it gives us that movement and change which are necessary to our well-being. Some people travel in search of beauty, others to satisfy their curiosity, and many people consider traveling to be a good form of rest.

While travelling we look for different things. Some people look for natural wonders: waterfalls, mountains; others search for ancient sites and great monuments. Others want to see romantic historical cities or exciting modern cities. Coach potatoes prefer beautiful beaches and a coastline.

Some people travel light, and some take a lot of luggage on their travels, journeys, voyages or trips. They may choose various means of travelling: by air, by sea, by train, by car, by coach, on a bike, on foot or even on horseback.

In the past, a seaside vacation and a package holiday were the most popular ones. But today the tourist industry provides a wide range of options where every taste is catered for. So what kind of tourist are you?

If you are a daring type and a thrill-seeker, you would probably like to head for exotic places and try some extreme activities. This may include rafting in dangerous waters, mountain biking or rock climbing. In this way some people can feel that they really escape from their boring lives. But you will meet real challenges and push yourself beyond your usual comfort zone if you think of trying adventure tourism.

If you are a nature lover and an environmentally friendly type, try backpacking. You will definitely enjoy travelling to remote untouched and protected areas. Hiking and camping in stunningly beautiful places, sleeping under a starry night, making a wish on a shooting star and singing campfire songs – what can be more romantic?

But most people just want to get away from it all, lazy around on the beach and  enjoy specialties of foreign cuisine. Combine it with exploring historic heritage and art and immersing yourself into the atmosphere of a new culture and you will leave vacation spot full of unique and memorable experiences that will stay with you forever. What is more, you will broaden your outlook and make new friends.

Every journey has to be arranged beforehand. There is a number of things one must take care of it they want to make their journey comfortable. First of all, you should choose the most convenient way of getting at your destination. Secondly, it would be very wise of you to reserve everything in advance and save your time and trouble. Then you should find out the time of departure and the time of arrival. Think about your luggage beforehand and pack it neatly. It is strongly recommended to come to the railway station, coach station or airport well in advance so as to have enough time to settle for your traveling.

There are some things that can spoil the impression of your journey: travel sickness, heavy luggage, talkative fellow passengers, missing your transport, bad food, delays and cancellations of transport and bad weather. You should take everything into account and take drastic measures. For example you may take a medicine for your sickness, pack a couple of sandwiches, take suitable clothes, be well-organized and try to be optimistic in any case. People who are optimistic have more control and a better handle on life, live longer, achieve more, have more friends and generally are happier.

Whatever type of tourism and destination you choose be sure that you will return from your trip being a completely different person. Just travel with open eyes and heart and you will learn a lot of valuable lessons.

  1. 1. I prefer to travel with my friends. I think spending time with friends is more fun than spending time with my parents. I have common interests and hobbies with my friends and no one will be angry with you if you come too late from a walk.
    2. I believe that it is better to organize a trip yourself, because a guided tour is for a large number of people and isn't able to adapt exactly to you. When you organize a trip yourself, you can take into account all your preferences and needs. You can also save money if you organize a trip yourself.
    3. What exotic country will you recommend?
What is the weather like in this country?
What is the national currency in this country?
What is the price of the trip?
    Is the national food spicy?
    4. There are many attractions in Belarus. I advise you to visit Mir Castle - a huge castle complex. For nature lovers, I can recommend Belovezhskaya Pushcha. And I advise you to visit the capital of Belarus - Minsk, which is full of various historical monuments.
    5. First, everyone needs a change of scenery, a person gets tired of walking on the same streets every day. People go to warm countries just to relax. Secondly, visiting different countries expands your horizons. Personally, I am interested in learning the history and language of another country.

  2. 1)I prefer to travel with my parents or friends. Most often I travel with my family, we like to spend time together. Traveling with friends is always fun and unforgettable.
2)I would have preferred a guided tour. I think any trip should provide knowledge about the culture and life of the people of the country being visited, it is difficult to learn something new and interesting yourself, so a guide can help you with this.
3)what exotic fruit is worth trying? What are the traditions in this country? what scenic spots can i visit? what language do local people speak?
4)I advise you to visit Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the National Library of Belarus, Chelyuskintsev Park, the Mound of Glory, historical castles
5)first of all, people go to rest to take a break from the bustle of the city. Also, many are interested in learning a lot about other countries, islands and about the people who live there. Everyone wants to enjoy the sea and the warm sun.

  3. 1. Holidays with family can be hard cause not everybody in the family wants to do the same things. There need to be a lot of compromises in traveling with friends nonetheless it can be incredible fun. Traveling alone has advantages over traveling with other people (you can choose what you want to do) but it can be lonely and, sometimes, dull with no one to talk to. That's why I'd prefer to travel with someone I get on well with, who share my interests and ideas, with whom I have a lot in common.

    2. You can find pros and cons in any type of travel organization. The main advantage of choosing a guided tour is the ease of travel arrangements and guaranteed safety. So you can save your time and reduce stress. Sometimes, guided tours don't match all your preferences although they are usually more expensive. They are also more suitable for traveling with family.
Freedom of choice of time, place, actions, new discoveries and risks  - that's what we mean talking about the trip organized by yourself. Planning skills and responsibility are extremely important here. That's why this type of traveling is more challenging.

    3. What are the conditions of medical care there? What can you say about the travel insurance?
What should I know about this traveling destination to avoid trouble?
What is a must to take with to this country?

    4. The places to visit depend on the purpose of the trip. If he/she wants to learn about the history of Belarus it’s a must to visit reconstructed palaces of Nesvizh and Mir, Grodno with its Old and New Castles. To enjoy the nature I'll advise to visit Belovezhskaya and Nalibokskaya pushchas, Beresinsky National reserve, Pripyatsky National Park. Belarusian capital Minsk is also worth visiting.

    5. Millions of people all over the world are fond of traveling. Even the most remote areas of the Earth are now coming within reach of the traveler due to advances in transportation and IT. Besides, package holidays have made traveling much easier. People enjoy traveling a lot because it's a great way to relax, broaden your mind, see other countries and continents, discover different ways of life, meet different people and try foreign food. Traveling is extremely popular cause the variety of directions is huge (absolutely everyone can find a destination to his/her liking). Nowadays we can't fully enjoy traveling, but let's hope it will be over soon.

  4. 1)I prefer to travel with friends, because with them you can really have fun and relax. I think that with my parents it will be boring and uninteresting, but still do not ignore traveling with your family.
2)I think that it is better to travel around the city or country where you went. In any case, you can ask the residents something or find your way using the navigator. But if you want to learn more about the sights, it is better to book a tour.
    3)
    1. What fruits should not be eaten?
    2. What precautions should I take?
    3. Whether there are dangerous animals in this city / country.
    4. Who can I contact in case of danger?
4)I would recommend visiting Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the Belarusian National Library, Mir Castle, Nesvizh Castle, and the salt mountains in Soligorsk.
5)I believe that people travel to take a break from the gray everyday life and just relax. Many people travel to the seas to improve their health with salt water. Maybe people's lives have become difficult, so everyone wants to go somewhere.

  5. 1. As for me I prefer to travel with someone. To my mind it's much more better to have a person at hand to share your plans and impressions. In addition when u travel abroad with someone u always have a man who speaks your mother-tongue. But on the other hand it's sometimes hard because your plans can differ greatly.
    2. I think that it's better to have oranised trip when u go abroad cause u don't need to be worry about dozens of problem such as timetables of different sights, booking in advance and all that stuff. But on the other hand u don't have a chance to spend a bit more time somewhere because u r glued to a timetable. So i think that if u r capable of finding information communication by yourself in a foreighn country and u don't have strict timetable you should go by ur own.
    3. Are there any dangers?
What is this country famous for?
Is there mobile or internet connection?
What would u recommend me to do there first?
    What sights are located there?
Is it neccesary to have an insurance to go there?
4.First i'll advise him to visit Nesvijh and Mir castles, then Grodno and Minsk. If they are interested in military sphere and history i will recommend them to visit Khatyn and Stalin's line
    5. Centures ago travelling was too expensive and time-consuming but nowadays almost everyone has an opportunity to travel across the world. While travelling you can easily broaden your horizons, see a lot of world-famous sights and met dozens of new people. Travelling today is the way how people study the world.

  7. 1. I always prefer walking alone, but it’s normal for me to travel with my parents. I’ve never go on holiday with my friends but I wish I would in the near feature. When I walking on my own I don’t need to adjust to other, I can go wherever I want to be, but sometimes it is really boring and you need a company.
    2. On the one hand it is easier and sometimes cheaper to stick to your plan and to organize trip by yourself. This kind of travelling has their advantages. For example you do not need to depend on time, you can go to the toilet whenever you want and go to eat without delaying a group of people. On the other hand if you travel with a guide you can find out more interesting things, cause this people are often more aware of what is happening around in a foreign country and they know more facts and can present even boring story in awesome way. Also if you are in a long guide tour you always will be with a group and you will never be losted. If you go to some cafes with a guide you can always be sure that the costs of the food will be moderate and all dishes will be tested and tasty.
    3. How much does the tour cost?
What would u recommend me to do there first?
What places do you advise me to visit first?
Where can I make really good photos?
What is your favorite place to go?
    4. So, the first places I want him to visit will be The Mir and Nesvizh castles. They are one of the beautiful places in Belarus and they can show the riches of our history. When I was in a tour to this castles I remember how they struck and surprised me. Also the Narochansky National Park also will be a good choice. He or she will like the breathtaking views, the giant lakes and spectacular nature of this wonderful place.
    5. We always want to see and discover something new in your lives. Travelling is one of the easiest ways to do it. Travelling can be different – relaxing and come for one and extremely risky for another. You can choose what you want and learn some interesting facts about foreign culture and country. So, and when you know something about other mentality you develop yourself. That’s it.

  8. 1. Usually I travel abroad with my parents, because I am underage. But I hope in the future I can travel with my friends. When it comes to trips to the nearest cities, then I often go with friends. I like to spend time with my friends, because we have more in common then with my relatives.

    2. I think it depends on person. If you want to hear the basics, you should buy a guided tour. But if you want to go deeper and need more time to explore sigts, then organaize a trip by yourself. As for me, I'm a fan of "free" trips, because you can choose any time and any place according to your liking to explore.

    3. Are any poisonous insects living there?
Do I need to take some medecines in trip? If yes, which ones?
    Where will we be accommodated?
What is the weather like in that country?
What languages are spoken in this country?

    4. Firstly, Minsk. This city is simply a concentration of sights and must-visited places. If somethig happens in Belarus, it is usually take plase in the capital. Secondly, Brest. This city is a real historical center, because there located a building that became the first victim on the territory of Belarus during the WWII. Thirdly, my favourite city, Grodno, it is famous for its architecture, some streets look exactly like the Europe ones.

    5. Everyone want to see how different our world and meet the culture of other peoples and countries. Traveling helps people take their minds off their problems. This is a kind of therapy. I think people will be happier if they travel more.

  9. 1. I prefer to travel with friends, as friends share my interests, entertainment, and outlook on life. Alone, it would be boring and I'm not comfortable being alone. And parents have completely different views on fun, because it can turn into a quarrel, after which there will be no desire to travel.
    2. I believe that it is better to make a visit program yourself. So as you know yourself and understand that you are interested and what is not, what places would like to visit, and which aren't. The tour already has a certain plan of places that you will visit, but some places may only take time and not interest you.
    3. 1. What places would you recommend to visit? 2. What exotic animals live in the area? 3. What is the average temperature prevailing there? 4.What are the local traditions?
    4. To begin with, I would advise him not to visit our country. But still, I think I would advise you to visit the castles on the territory of Belarus and the museums of writers, as our country is famous for its works and deep history. I would advise him to visit villages that still observe local traditions and customs, holidays. I would advise you to visit the town hall in the city of Chechersk.
    5. I think every person strives for self-development and knowledge of this world, understanding other nations, communicating with people from other countries. Travel increases your horizons many times, as well as inspires and gives hope for a bright life. Travel also develops speech and helps to learn a foreign language, which is very important in our time. You can talk a lot about this, but these are the main reasons.

  10. 1) I like to travel, but always in different ways. It is of course good when there is a company for traveling, but sometimes you want to do it alone. Still, most of my travels have been with my family. 2) Perhaps I won't say how best, but I would like to try both options on myself. I only traveled in pre-arranged events. I would like to start traveling on my own. 3) 1) Are there dangerous animals and plants in this country? 2) What is the climate in this country? 3) What are the traditions of this country? 4) What famous places can you visit in this country? 4) I would advise you to visit the castles of Belarus, go on excursions in these castles. Visit Polotsk and see the "center of Europe". Of course de visit Soligorsk and its salt dumps.
    5) Many people like to study other culture and traditions. They are looking for new acquaintances so as not to be lonely. There are people who cannot sit still and travel to different countries.

  11. 1. I think it depends on what you expect from the trip. It will be super fun with your friends. It will be very comfortable and safe with your family. And you can be alone with yourself, deal with internal problems and get new acquaintances traveling alone. In any case, there will be many pleasant memories and exciting stories. So I don't want ro choose one thing.
    2. If you are going somewhere for the first time, you should completely rely on the tour agency that you choose. But if you have already traveled many times and know exactly what you want you can organize everything yourself. This way you will save a significant amount of money which you can use during the trip.
    3. Should I be afraid of some insects? Where can I ask for help if they bite?
Is it expensive to eat only healthy food?
What can you say about the political situation in this country?
What is the cheapest mode of transport? And the most expensive?
    4. The places to visit depend on the purpose of the trip. If you want to learn about the history of Belarus it’s a must to visit reconstructed palaces of Nesvizh, Mir, Kosovo and Lida. If you would like to enjoy the nature you can visit Belovezhskaya and Nalibokskaya pushchas, Beresinsky National reserve, Pripyatsky National Park. Also there many attractions in the capital of the country - Minsk.
    5. I think that for the sake of adventure, just to take a break from the hustle and routine, to get new feelings and emotions. I think everyone gets used things and even people that surround him. As a result we stop enjoying our lives. Therefore, we should change the situation, learn something new about the world . And the world has so many amazing things that it is impossible to stay indifferent.
