IELTS Writing Task 2: Problem / Solution Essay 2

Problem / Solution Essay 2

The internet has transformed the way information is shared and consumed, but it has also created problems that did not exist before.
What are the most serious problems associated with the internet and what solutions can you suggest?

  • You should spend about 40 minutes on this task to write at least 250 words.
An IELTS problem solution essay will usually ask for problems and solutions (note plural), so try to include two of each. This leads logically to an essay with two body paragraphs, like the model answer above. Try to describe each solution together with the problem it solves in order to be as coherent as possible. And remember, your solutions don’t have to be original, or even realistic, in order to get a high score. The IELTS examiner is only interested in your use of language, not in the quality of your ideas.

  1. In modern society, the internet transformed the way how information is quoted and distributed. Nevertheless, with all advantages this innovation has vast disadvantages and generate immense quantities of new problems. There are many difficulties with the fact that there is a huge amount of information and the impossibility of correctly distinguishing it, and there is also pollution of nature. So the main thesis is what the problem are and how we can solve them. In the following paragraph I will represent some problematic situations with the subsequent solutions in order to convey my ways of addressing.

One of the main issues is obviously consumption. Getting both good and bad information every day can cause mental problems like depression and stress, making it hard to enjoy life. We often spend a lot of time in internet, scrolling Instagram or TikTok, trying to find new emotions or distracted from our problems. The internet gives us quick pleasure, so to improve our lives, we need to limit how much screen time we get.

The second problem is not knowing how to use the information we find. It's not enough to just get information, we must also know how to organize it. As I said before, we like to sit on the Internet and browse the feed in applications without really thinking about the reliability of the information. I looked into "fact-checking" to find a solution. My advice is to learn how to spot fake news, use social media carefully, and remember that real facts are more important than exciting stories.

Summaries, in the modern world the internet has greatly changed information and the process of its distribution. The main point is that you need to know how to use the internet well. I believe that if you use the tips I wrote above, you can achieve the perfect balance when using the Internet.

    1. The essay adequately addresses the prompt by identifying problems associated with internet use and suggesting solutions. The response is well-structured and presents a clear position. The essay demonstrates a good range of vocabulary, although some words could be more precise and sophisticated. Next time pay more attention to the usage of synonyms and grammar structures.
