Exam Topics. Future Career

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PROFESSION

Choosing your future career alongside with marrying the right person is the most important decision people make in life. Starting with a right profession at the right time can bring you good results in the long run. Scientists have calculated that every person spends approximately 40 hours per week at work. It’s 25% of your time. The longer you stay with a profession, the more experience you will earn. You may spend this time enjoying what you do or torturing yourself. A famous old saying goes: “Find the job that you love and you will never work a day in your life.” That’s what thousands of recent school-leavers are struggling to do.  But with thousands of careers to choose from how to pick one that will become your calling?

There are many factors that may have a great influence on choosing your future career. For some teenagers parents are role models and that’s why they follow in their parents footsteps. Others take into consideration demands of the job market, economic situation and salaries. Such people usually go into something prestigious and well-paid. Anyway your choice should greatly depend on your character and interests.

People who feel comfortable working with numbers may go in for accounting, IT sphere or teaching Maths and Physics. Outgoing and creative types who constantly need to communicate with people will probably be good at management and advertising. If you want to make a difference in people’s lives you may consider becoming a doctor, a nurse or a teacher. These professions are highly challenging but rewarding.

Before choosing a profession, consider the following points. First, take time to think about the impact a profession selection will have on your professional life and analyze all the aspects of the profession. Then, talk about it with your friends who are into that profession already. Asking them about an opinion about your decision is also worth. They can give you more inputs for your decision making process. Moreover, try to make an appointment with a good career consultant and explore the potential of the new profession. Finally, see if your present skills are adequate for the chosen profession, after that take necessary steps to enhance the skills to do this kind of job. And last but not least, discuss this in online forums. Online forums can help you a lot as you receive a lot of useful information from around the world.

As for me, I have always been fond of languages, history and geography. I’m sure that I won’t stand a monotonous office job. I want to travel, explore and have adventures. That’s why I’ve set my mind on the career of a travel guide. In my opinion, it’s the best profession in the world. Every day you do for a living what others only do on vacation. You meet amazing people from all over the world and see inspiring places on a daily basis.

But I realize that it doesn’t mean to be easy. Travel guides may face rude and indifferent tourists, so they have to be charismatic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable to charm the group. I get on well with people and, according to my friends and relatives, I’m good at story-telling. I hope that university will help me get necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in profession.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that the choice of the future career will greatly impact my life so I’m taking it seriously. I have assessed my weaknesses and strengths, set a goal and I will do my best to achieve it.

  1. 1) I want to be an engineer. I want to study for this profession because my dad has a similar profession. Since childhood, I wanted to be like him. 2) I prefer to work in a team when I know I can't do it alone. The team is always fun. But it happens that you need to be alone with yourself if you have to think long and hard. 3) Why does your job give you so much pleasure? Have you always wanted to work in this profession? Were your parents happy when you wanted to do this? 4) You need to think about your interests, listen to your loved ones and parents. But always make the decision yourself. It is very important to understand that this should be your favorite job. 5) These two points are very important at once. It is important to work at the job you want to come and it will give you pleasure. But you also need it to bring the income you need. Because if the salary is too low, how will you live?

  2. 1)I haven't decided yet, but I think that my future work will be related to communication with people in the field of law.
2)it doesn't matter to me, I get along well with people and can work in a team, but of course I want to have my own business
    3)do you enjoy your work?
What are the + and - of your job?
    What is your salary?
What advice could you give me about this profession?
4)I think it's more important to love your job, because your mood depends on it, if you don't like your job, then you will always be irritated and this will spoil relations with other.Salary is also important, but if your favorite job does not bring a high salary, you can always find a part-time job that will be sacred to your interests and will also bring pleasure and extra money.

  3. 1. I whant to design and create something in the future, so thats why I chose architecture. Maybe clothes design is more facinating but it's very competitive area. Architects usually have job and good salary.

    2. It depends on situation. If I have a lot of work to do, I ask for help. In the other way I do it by myself. Team work can distract in those moments.

    3. What is your profession?
Is it hard to find the same job?
How many hours do you work per day?
    Do you enjoy your job?
How did you choose your job?

    4. Firstly, you need to evaluate your strength and weaknesses. It will help to choose the right way and then move forward. I recommend to choose profession according to your abilities, don't look at things that are hard for you (or if you have a strong desire, just start develop your skills). Don't give in to pressure from the side, choose a profession according to your tastes.

    5. Of course, enjoying job is more important than money. People can be happy without big salaries but doing their lifework. And if you don't get pleasure from your job, even big money can't help you feel better.

  4. 1. I have not chosen a specific profession yet, but I want to work in the field of international relations. I want to study in this direction because it implies communication with people, development and practice of foreign languages. Also it will be possible to live and work abroad.
2.It depends on the task. Team produces great ideas and teams can highlight people’s strengths. But I certainly enjoy working on my tasks as an individual as well. This gives the experience and skills i need.
3.At what age did you choose your profession? What profession did you choose? Do you have a fixed working day? What progress have you made moving up the career ladder? Are you getting along with your colleagues?
4.You should ask yourself the question do you like this job. Also you have to think about salary, working hours, your vacation and so on. And the main thing is that you must rely on your capabilities, identify your weaknesses and strengths.
5.To some, money is more important, but to others, job satisfaction is on the top. It is more important for me to love my work, because even one bad day has a strong impact on our psychological state and what if we are talking about whole life.. And I think that with a strong desire, you can find a job with a normal salary that you like more or less.

  5. 1)I want to work in IT technology sphere. And i know that i need to work a lot. And raise my knowledge. When i start thinking about building my career in this sphere, i choosed BSUIR as my future university. It can give me enough knowledge and practise.
2)I can work in team and by oneself. In team we can do big projects, by myself i can freelance and choose task, that i want to do.
3)What attracts you to your work?
Do you satisfied with your salary?
What do you think about working conditions in your company?
What kind of work is it?
4)From my point of view you need to check information about conditions in this company and salary. Of course think 'Will i enjoy my new work?'. Get all about requirements that the employer is waiting for.
5)I would choose the middle of this statement. You can have good salary as miners. But you would work a lot and damage you health. Or you can be a programmer. Get a lot of money comparing with other works in our country, but you need to self-educate and raise your knowledge. Sometimes you will work till late night, but in my opinion it worth that.

  7. 1. I haven’t made a decision yet, but I want to tie my life with languages and IT technologies. So, now I’m going to learn some languages at the university and take IT courses.
    2. I prefer working alone. I can do whatever I would like to be done without distractions on something/someone else. Working alone you don’t need to divide your project and do just the part of whole work.
    3. Was it difficult to achieve what you have now?
How many hours do you work per day?
What do you like mostly in(about) your job?
What is the secret of successful working career?
Are you getting on well with your colleagues?
    4. Firstly, you should sit and think what is your ideal job. What would you like to do? Sitting at the office or have more active lifestyle? You should understand what you do better. Think about your interests, preferences.
    5. All of above. Because only pleasure you get while working is not the only valuable thing you can get.
