Exam topics: Outstanding people

Have you ever asked yourself a question what your life would be like today without the invention of the theory of relativity or without such a masterpiece as “Romeo and Juliet”? How would have the world history changed but for such influential figures as Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi? It’s hard to say but one thing is clear – it wouldn’t be the same. These famous people contributed a lot to the development of the mankind and changed our perception of the world to a great extent.
In my opinion to be an outstanding person means to possess personality, not to be like anyone else and it is someone who is not trying to emphasize it. An outstanding person is the one who wants to do something good in his or her life and who helps other people and leaves some kind of trace in the life of others. America has always been achievement-oriented nation. Americans are very proud of their in «some way national hero» Bill Gates and they consider him an outstanding person. Why? Because he was able to create something from nothing. He is not like everyone else, he is one of a kind and that makes him an outstanding person. A young man who used to work in his garage became famous all over the world and when you exchange a word with him you’ll never get a message, that he is better than you are. A true example of devotion and determination on the way to success is Henry Ford, an American captain of industry and a business magnate, the founder of the Ford Motor Company. Not many people know that he failed several times and was broke before succeeding in his start-up business. He really had an idea of what persistence means! These are examples of becoming outstanding people, respectable and strong personalities.
Each country can boast its own outstanding personalities. Great Britain has given the world many talented scientists, politicians, sportsmen, writers and poets, painters and musicians. The names of Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Charles Dickens, John Lennon, Charlie Chaplin speak for themselves. The first British woman Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a well-known Scottish writer of Sherlock Holmes stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin, who relieved more suffering than any other living man, a former star of the legendary Manchester United David Beckham also deserve mentioning.
Our country has raised a lot of people who can be called outstanding and made a big contribution to the world’s heritage due to its gifted historic figures and our contemporaries.  Number one, for sure, is Francysk Skoryna, a Belarusian legend. He has been remembered and respected for his contribution to the education and the development of printing. Belarus is the motherland of such writers as Y. Kolas, Y. Kupala, A. Mitskevich, V. Bykov, K. Krapiva, I. Shamyakin, M. Tank, V. Korotkevich, M. Bagdanovich and many others who did a lot for our culture. Among the most prominent Belarusian Artists are Mark Shagall. Ossip Zadkin, Kazimir Malevich, M. Savitski. They were involved in renovation of Belarusian culture and they were not afraid to start everything from the beginning and to tell us about our roots, our identity. We can be justly proud of our sportsmen Maxim Mirny, Victoria Azarenka, Darya Domracheva, Alexei Grishin, Melitina Staniouta and many others.
The year of 2015 was marked by a significant event. The first writer from Belarus was awarded Nobel Prize in Literature. This was Svetlana Alexievich, a Belarusian investigative journalist and non-fiction prose writer. Her books have been translated into many languages. Her most distinguished  works are “War Does Not Have a Woman’s Face”, “Boys in Zinc”, “Chernobyl Prayer”.
We often wonder whether a genius is born or made. Judging by the numerous examples we can assume that naturally born talent is the key ingredient of success. But the way is very often thorny. So such qualities as hard work, determination, persistence and devotion are a must.

  1. 1)The list with the names of people who changed our lives is neverending. We can easily name dozens of poets, writers, inventors and others people. But what concerns me i think that the greatest impact on our lives has made scientists such as Newton, Flemming, Turing, Einstein.
2)Without doubt. Every person must know their roots and origins to understand the surrounding world.
    3) Could u tell us about our origins?
What would u like to change in the world?
Do u think that u have an opportunity to change the world?
What is your favourite historical figure?
4)To get acquainted with the works of famous businessmen like Ford and others. They wrote a lot of books where they described their way to success and as i think it would be a great start to begin your career.
5)I quite agree with that because all outstanding people think of something what is above our ordinary thoughts and as fact they are often alike

  2. 1)Many famous people have made our lives different. For example Bill Gates, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Henry Ford and many others. But if we talk specifically about our fellow countrymen, then of course this is Francysk Skoryna, a Belarusian legend. He has been remembered for his contribution to the education and the development of printing.
2)Of course, it is important to know the history of your country. You need to know the merits of your country and be proud of them.
3)I would choose a famous musician.
1.How long did you go to such success?
2.Have you encountered any difficulties on the way to popularity?
3.Do you work alone or in a team?
4.Did your parents approve of what made you popular now?
4)Never give up and believe in your success. The main thing is to go through life with your head held high and not get hung up on the little things. If you follow these tips, then you will definitely come to your dream.
5)I agree with this statement. The thoughts of great minds are very different from the thoughts of ordinary people, so the thoughts of great minds are similar.

  3. 1. There are many scientists, musicians, writers, and politicians who have changed the world. Each of them somehow influenced a person individually. Just a song or a picture can change a person's mind. And some scientists have changed the idea of all people about the world.
    2. Of course! First, knowing the history of your country makes you an educated person. Secondly, knowing the history of your country will help in the future, because without the past there is no future.
    3. I would interview some famous musician.
    1. How did you start your career?
    2. What inspires you?
    3. What advice can you give to an aspiring musician?
    4. Do you see music as a hobby or as a job?
    5. Do you want to change something in the world?
    4. I can highlight 2 main points: believe in yourself and work hard. You can communicate with people from this field, search for information on the Internet and in books.
    5. I agree with this statement. Some want to solve some global problem, and some want to bring something new into our lives. But everyone does it in their own way.

  4. 1)many famous scientists and other great people have changed our way of thinking and life in general, for example, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, William Shakespeare, Christopher Columbus and many others.
2)Of course. Every person must understand that he has a native language and land, as well as history and culture. If a person does not know his past, he will not be able to build a "bright" future. History is also an invaluable experience acquired by humanity over the centuries.
3)I would interview a famous scientist. How long did it take you to discover it? Was there any criticism from other people? Why did you decide to do science?
4)I would advise you to count books on financial literacy, attend webinars. Chat with friends who have experience in business
5)I don’t think so. Each person has his own point of view which is based on his personal experience

  5. 1. The amount of people who have influenced our lives is huge. There are writers, scientists, explorers, politicians, artists and others. For example Charles Darwin, Tim Berners-Lee (the "father" of the Internet), Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Christopher Columbus, Martin Luther King Jr.. So, I think that it's impossible to name the person who influenced our lives the most.

    2. Of course, your history is your heritage. Nobody forces you to know every trifle thing exactly, but try at least to learn it at outlines. Your country's history has influenced our life today. There are also many legends in our folklore and they are very interesting. It will be useful to learn something about it.

    3. I would like to interview a scientist or explorer.
How long did it take you to get to your discovery?
Has anyone helped you with it? What inspired you?
What else would you like to explore?
    What's your motivation?
Have you ever seen plagiarism of your works?
    Do you have followers?

    4. I think he should be persistent and believe in himself. It is always important to follow your goals. He also need to get a lot of necessary knowledge, you should encourage your son to learn new things. There will be ups and downs on his way, achieving a dream is never easy.

    5. I think they mean that great people are similar in their genius. They think differently, what makes them special. Their actions bring benefits for all mankind.

  6. 1. The amount of people who made our life different is huge and it’s hard to imagine what it would be like without their influence. The list of famous scientists, writers, poets, artists, musicians and politicians is endless. But there are names we hear more often than others: Alexander Bell, Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Alexander Fleming, William Shakespeare and many others.

    2. Yes, I think it's important to know the history of your country. History influences our culture and our culture influences who we are. If we know the past we can learn from it in order to not repeat previous mistakes. It's impossible to know every single event, but we should know the ones that influenced our present life.

    3. I will choose one of the scientists to interview.
When did you decide to become a scientist? Was it your childhood dream?
It seems that scientists are always concentrated only on study. Is that true?
What kind of trace do you want to leave in the life of others?

    4. Success largely depends on your skills, education, personal qualities and financial resources. You need to be prepared for difficulties and problems you will face daily (without them a business cannot exist). Be ready to take full responsibility for running a business, for everything that happens in it. Don't be afraid to take risks and make mistakes. I will also advise not to give up because it's just your experience.

    5. I think that great minds just think globally. Undoubtedly every influencer has own thoughts and ideas based on personal experience. Outstanding people want to do something good in their lives what makes them think alike in some way.

  7. 1. Speaking about people who made our life different the first things that coming to our minds are people like the famous physicists as Newton or Einstein, the famous inventors of penicillin Alexander Fleming and of Microsoft Bill Gates – people who contributed our life a lot. But there are a lot of the greatest conquerors as the Catherine II, Genghis Khan and others who in their time made a lot, there are a lot of imperious politics as Stalin, Margaret Thatcher – these people didn’t change a lot our style of life but they had made a great influence on our history. And our history is our past. Who knows what would be with our world without these people. Also I can name Joanne Rowling, Solzhenitsyn, Pushkin and of course well known in Belarus Francis Skorina.
    2. Yes, I do. I think that when you know the mistakes and victories of the past you will know how to enroll your future. You shouldn’t know a lot, it is unnecessary, but knowledge of even some famous people of your country is intelligence indicator or something like this.
    3. I would choose the famous digital artist, cause it is very popular now to draw via gadgets.
What do you like more in drawing? What process gives you more satisfaction than others? What inspire you to continue drawing? What do you think about artblock? What types of art do you appreciate more?
    4. I think that first of all he must know what he really want to achieve and to see in his future career. He must know that he can get it and deal with all problems. And that’s all. Why? Because real businessmen don’t tell their secrets. And who knows mb I also want to be a businesswoman… shhh
    5. May be. We have heard a lot about strangeness of some different outstanding people. So and to conclude I’d to say that if Galileo didn’t think that our Earth turns, who knows md we would still live on a flat one.

  8. 1) People like Newton, Mendeleev, Pythagoras, Lawrence and many others have changed our lives. Thanks to them, we all study physics, mathematics, chemistry, etc. They opened up a lot of new things for us in their time.
    2) Yes, I think it is important to know the history of your country. Wars, riots, revolutions, knowing their history, you can prevent this, if you take into account all the mistakes.
    3) I would choose, Madonna. Because this celebrity has lived a long and interesting life. Questions: 1. What is the most dangerous adventure that ever happened to you? 2. How difficult is the life of a celebrity from 1 to 10 for you? Why? 3. Do you like how your career has developed? 4. What period in your life was the most memorable and important for you?
    4) I would advise, the main thing is to go towards your goal. Be reasonable, honest, puntal, always see the perspective in your affairs and, of course, think sensibly.
    5) Probably, I disagree, because there are many promising people, but there are not so many people with great intelligence. Still, each person has his own thoughts, reasoning and it is important that they be. It is possible that you conceived something, but someone did it before you. But still, if you are smart, you will improve it and make it even better.

1)I can mantion people like Bill Gates, Jimmy Hendrix, Albert Einstein,Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and money others. They changed our life in many spehers. In music, technology or just our common life.
2)For me it's not nessesary. I prefer to learn only things that can help me in future life or thing that can help me in my hobbies. Like radio engineering, basic physic, math, maybe laws of my country.
    3) I'd choose Zakk Wylde from the Black Label Society, cause i am fan of heavy music and from this interview i can learn something new for myself and share that facts with others.
1.In what age you started playing guitar?
2.How did you met Ozzy Osbourne and started working as a lead guitarist in his group?
3.What basic things from music theory do i need to know to white to write harmonious songs?
4.How did you get the idea of making your own guitars?
4)I cant give really working advice. Im not working in this sphere and i doesn't have enough experience in buisness. But i recommend to rely only on yourself, then make buisness plans for whole year. You should work really hard for your starting company.
5)I dont think so. If we compare a genius who works in music and in physics we will see that this people think about different things. Their genius will be different. Genius of a musician can be an ability to write hard but cool music that every people will like it. A physicist do something like discovering new universes.

    1. I believe that every famous person has some kind of minimal impact on a person. I am so influenced by the heroes of TV series, musicians and other famous people. It will be very difficult to name each one, since the list is quite long. but still I will name 3 main names: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Hande Erchel. Although if you rely on scientists who have contributed to the knowledge of EVERY person, then these are Mendeleev, Einstein, Newton and other people associated with scientific knowledge.
    2. Yes, it is very important to know the history of your country. First, it is the study of the past of their ancestors. Secondly, in political and other issues, you imagine how people from the past solved these issues. Despite the fact that I absolutely do not like history, I believe that it is necessary to know the history of your country.
    3. I would choose Nina Dobrev.
    1) Was it hard to learn a foreign language?
    2) How long ago did you move from Bulgaria to the USA?
    3) Was it difficult to adapt among people who speak their language well and quickly?
    4) How many hours per day did you spend filming?
    5) What advice can you give to novice actors and those who are learning a foreign language?
    4. First of all, I want to advise him to learn foreign languages for contact and cooperation with all successful other people. Also, as soon as the opportunity comes to him to communicate with successful businessmen, so that he communicates with them and emphasizes important information for himself for promotion, which they will tell. And also think only with your own mind and never with someone else's.
    5. Great minds and truth, in a sense, think alike. They are united by sharp thinking and attentiveness to different things. That is, about some things they may have the same thoughts or are somehow related to each other. However, each person has his own opinion and his own thoughts, therefore they will be radically different in the field of thinking and working. They have only separate moments of the same thinking, which connects them and complements each other.

  11. 1.There are people whose contribution to the development of humanity is felt only after some time, often after their death, and there are people who change the way we think during their lifetime. Such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Martin Cooper, Nikola Tesla.
2.Of course, it is important to know the history of your country. You need to know the merits of your country and be proud of them.
    3.Do you love your life?
    What is your current priority?
Do you have your own dream / goal?
Have you achieved everything you wanted?
4.The most important thing is of course to go and go again to your goal and never give up! The main thing is to choose your path correctly and go to the end.
5.Great minds are usually also great sages. The wisdom of the great looks in one direction. That's what wikipedia says, but I think a little differently. This is a bit of a misstatement. Of course, if great people unite, they achieve huge breakthroughs in physics/history/mathematics. But individually, each person is a person. Each person has their own mindset and their own thoughts.

  12. 1. I think everyone makes more or less noticeable changes. And some have reached such heights in their business that they have become known all over the world. this is for example Cleopatra, Gandhi, Pablo Picasso, Da Vinci, Napoleon, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King, Marie Curier and Tesla. I can't imagine the real world without the changes they've made.
    2. It's extremely important to know the history of your country. Moreover, the history of Belarus is very rich and closely connected with neighboring states. Also some people consider history as unnecessary knowledge because we live in the present, but I believe that this is not only knowledge about our origin and people, but also your development in general.
    3. I would like to interview one of the richest people in the world.
How old were you when you started earning money?
What was your first job like?
How did you learn financial literacy?
Do you think that absolutely anyone can properly manage huge amounts of money?
Do you want your children to continue your work or do you want them to realize them by their own?
    4. The desire to earn money is not the driving force that creates a business. If a business is not able to create value for people, then nothing will work. And I believe that you need to possess or develop the following qualities : responsibility, patience, diligence, leadership skills, knowledge in the sphere where you want to be successful.
    5. I know that the full phrase is "great minds think alike though fools seldom differ", so I do not agree with the fact that all people are divided into only two types. It seems to me that geniuses think about something global, not only about their own interests, but also about the benefit of humanity. But in any case, everyone has completely different ways to achieve the goal, as different as the goals themselves.
